CARING HANDS INFANT HOME
This is where the little ones go after they have been discharged from the clinic, and stay there until the age of three.
One nanny has 5 children under her care. The nannies duty rosters rotate. They are three days on day duty, three days on night duty and three days off. It requires three teams of nannies. They are taught how to love and care for the little ones.
In their last year at Caring Hands the children have play school. Some of the nannies have been trained for this work.
We have cooks in the kitchen who cook three wholesome meals a day and the children get their snacks at 10 am and 3 pm.
There is a matron in charge assisted by her deputy.
The washing and cleaning is done by Malawian ladies.
At present there are 22 children, 60 is the limit.
We are reducing the intake because of the new "Caring Hands" to be build on Kondanani's own ground in Bvumbwe, where the other buildings are situated.
We would build an other facility able to accommodate 100 children.
The new building has been designed and we are awaiting a quote from the construction company and funds from the donor we have approached. The donor is very positive about the project.
The present home is situated on a hill and boasts a commanding view. It is very large and comfortable. It has a garden of 1 acre, a little paradise for the children.
The house was donated by press trust which is a Malawian donor organisation.
The house will be sold and the short fall for the new building will be donated by the same donor organisation. It will reduce costs incurred by, spending less fuel, less wear and tear on our vehicles. With a central kitchen, for every department, less staff will also be needed.
Here is some old stuff.
