KONDANANI CHILDREN VILLAGE

Kondanani has identified a need for children who leave Caring Hands Infant Home. For this purpose Kondanani has purchased 6 acres of land in the rural area where we are building "Kondanani Children's Village", for children in the 3 to 6 year old age group.

In Kondanani Children Village are also included:

We presently have 60 children at Kondanani children's village. The village consists of five houses. There are 12 children in each of these houses. The children are cared for by a house mother who is assisted by a nanny and cleaning lady.

Each of these houses have a name, "House of David", "Martha's Cabana", "Angela's Cottage", "Heinrich Hause", the fifth house is called "Christina's Place". These houses are named after people who have contributed significantly towards their construction.
We will build another 5 houses at Kondanani children's village. Our plan is that each house will have 10 children, rather than 12.

We have a decent size hall which is used for school assembly, the children to play in, to watch dvd's and video's, for entertainment. It is also used for the golden oldies who are the widows of over 60 that come every Wednesday and Friday. And what ever else a hall is needed for.

We have a central kitchen, with an office and two pantries. There is a sewing room, where the sewing for all departments of Kondanani is done. We make anything we can ourselves on site, from clothing to sheets to towels.
The kitchen prepares three wholesome meals every day for the children plus snacks for 10.00 am and 3.00 pm. The children eat in their own homes as a family.
Meals are properly researched to make sure that every nutritional need is met.

A new central kitchen for all the villages needs to be built within the next two years, which is an expensive exercise. A walk in cooler room would be a must and for the sake of hygiene a stainless steel kitchen should be fitted, as this would last for years to come.
A bio gas plant will be installed to be fuelled by cow dung. We would need at least 10 cows to have enough gas to cook for 200 children. This is a very cheap, simple and effective way of saving a lot of money.

We have two fully self contained cottages/chalet for guests on our premises. In addition to that, we have a double bedroom with a bathroom for guests, with a separate entrance from the main house.
